Phil Ross

Equity Research Analyst
London

What attracted you to a career in wealth management?

I studied economics at school and this gave me an early look at companies and markets. Since then, I have always been fascinated by how companies operate and how markets weigh information. I spent some time in sell-side equity research working for investment banks but being closer to the 'real' investing decisions, as is the case at Quilter Cheviot, is more exciting and meaningful to me.

How do you approach your role on a daily basis?

As an Equity Research Analyst, my job revolves around understanding how companies in the Insurance and Utilities sectors will perform, and how this will affect their stock prices over time. Staying on top of company-specific and sector-wide news is very important on a daily basis, and this covers a wide range of subjects, from extreme weather to changing government policy.

What are your interests outside of work?

Aside from seeing my friends and family, I enjoy watching and playing sport – mainly football and running.

The value of your investments and the income from them can fall and you may not recover what you invested.
