Ollie Tanner-Smith

Trainee Investment Manager
London

What attracted you to a career in wealth management?

I joined Quilter Cheviot in 2024, following the completion of my Master's degree in Finance at Lancaster University, where I specialised in portfolio investment strategies. I previously graduated with a degree in Economics from Lancaster University in 2022, which included a placement year as a Pensions Analyst with Mercer.

My interest in wealth management developed during my undergraduate studies, particularly while writing my dissertation, which examined financial literacy in the UK and the factors influencing individuals' preparedness for retirement. This research highlighted the real-world impact of sound financial planning and reinforced my desire to work in an industry dedicated to helping people achieve long-term financial security.

How do you approach your role on a daily basis?

In my role as a Trainee Investment Manager, I support a dedicated team of Investment Managers and their clients. My responsibilities include assisting with the active management of client portfolios, investment research, and client relationship management, ensuring clients receive a consistently high level of service. The day-to-day nature of investment management strongly reflects my core values and my commitment to supporting clients in achieving their long-term financial goals.

What are your interests outside of work?

Outside of work, I am a keen sportsman. Growing up, Cricket was my main hobby, and it remains a key interest today. I take every opportunity to play or watch during the summer months, having grown up in Yorkshire where the sport has always been a big part of my life.

More recently, I have competed in the Ultimate Frisbee World Championships (2022) and European Championships (2023). In my downtime, I also enjoy playing golf, travelling, and reading; ideally combining the latter two wherever possible.

The value of your investments and the income from them can fall and you may not recover what you invested.
