What attracted you to a career in wealth management?
Whilst still studying at school, I was able to secure work experience across a number of different industries, one of which was wealth management. I was particularly drawn to the dynamic nature of the market, combined with the opportunity to learn about different companies and to research different investment ideas.
I have spent over two decades in the wealth management sector, with a career that began at WH Ireland, where I worked as an Investment Manager for 15 years. My role involves tailoring bespoke investment portfolios to meet the specific objectives of clients.
How do you approach your role on a daily basis?
My primary role is to construct and manage investment portfolios across a range of asset classes for private clients, pensions, trusts and corporates. Portfolios are individually tailored to ensure that they are suitable for and meet the requirements of each client. In an increasingly complex financial world, it is imperative that clients are comfortable with the investments being made on their behalf, clear communication with clients is therefore a major focus and key to building relationships and trust.
I am also a member of the UK Stock Selection Committee and the AIM Committee. Additionally, I co-host the podcast Taking Stock – After the Bell with Quilter Cheviot colleague Jonathan Raymond.
What are your interests outside of work?
My wife and two young children are my main focus outside of work, but when there's a free moment I really enjoy cycling and sailing.
