Steve Whitley

Business Development Manager
Liverpool

What attracted you to a career in wealth management?

Money makes the world go around but the main reason I joined this industry was to help clients reach their goals in life. The importance of financial planning and wealth management, as well as financial education are key parts in achieving these goals and being part of that eco system is very rewarding.

My career spans 38 years. I initially joined a mortgage brokerage in 1988 who had links to the Bradford and Bingley Building Society. Here my roles featured, cashier, mortgage adviser then onto wealth adviser before leaving to join Scottish Equitable in 2001 as senior consultant and spent 13 glorious years here. I then joined Royal London in 2014 as senior pension consultant and spent 11.5 years great here before joining Quilter Cheviot as Regional Manager for the Liverpool office in November 2025.

I am a member of Personal Finance Society and hold the CII Diploma as well as Pension Transfer Specialist Qualification.

How do you approach your role on a daily basis?

I focus on both short term and long-term goals, be organised and on time. Being resilient is important, don't take life too seriously and treat people the way you would expect to be treated yourself.

What are your interests outside of work?

Outside of work, I like Formula 1, support Manchester United and enjoy socialising with friends at weekend over a nice meal. I am married to Jill who together with our dog Norman, keeps me on my toes. I pay close attention to my chosen charities, MacMillan, and Prostate Cancer UK for whom do great work and subjects close to my heart.

The value of your investments and the income from them can fall and you may not recover what you invested.
