What attracted you to a career in wealth management?
I began my investment career more than 30 years ago with a fund management company, first as an analyst and later as a fund manager. From the outset, I was fascinated by investment markets - the opportunity to meet company management teams, gain insights into diverse sectors, and appreciate the critical role of risk management.
Over time, however, my work became increasingly removed from the end client, and I found myself missing that essential connection. Transitioning into wealth management allowed me to stay deeply engaged with investment markets while reconnecting with the most important person in the process: the investor.
I hold a Bachelor of Commerce (Hons) from UCD, am a CFA charterholder, and also hold the QFA designation.
How do you look after/work with clients?
As an Investment Manager, my priority is to really get to know my clients so I can fully understand their financial position and investment goals. A core element of my role is taking the time to sit down with clients, listen to what matters most to them, and clearly explain QCE's investment process. While this is particularly important at the beginning of the relationship, it remains essential throughout.
I combine this client focus with a strong understanding of market developments and the specific investments held in each portfolio, working closely with our in‑house analyst team to ensure clients' strategies remain aligned with their objectives.
What are your interests outside of work?
Spending time with family and friends is hugely important both in Dublin and my native Waterford. I am an avid reader and member of a long-running book club who meet regularly to sort the world out and talk a little about books. I enjoy yoga and hillwalking.
