Keir Mackenzie

Trainee Investment Manager
Edinburgh

What attracted you to a career in wealth management?

My longstanding interest in understanding 'how things work' and the behavioural quirks of human decision making led me to pursue Economics at the University of Glasgow, followed by an MSc in Investment and Finance at the University of Strathclyde. Wealth management marries these curiosities nicely with the benefit of focussing on underlying clients, supporting them in making informed decisions and helping them achieve their financial goals.

How do you approach your role on a daily basis?

As a trainee, I support Investment Managers in achieving clients' financial goals, whilst developing and honing my own skills. This includes assisting with client meetings, constructing and monitoring bespoke investment portfolios and liaising with various stakeholders, amongst other duties. In Edinburgh, the Trainees benefit from exposure to various areas of expertise, from individual private clients to corporate entities and charities. With dedicated guidance from the team, a lot of responsibility and accountability is placed on our shoulders early in our careers.

What are your interests outside of work?

Outside of work, I have a deep affinity for sport, playing both football and squash competitively from a young age. I also have strong interests in rugby, golf, and tennis (being from Dunblane makes the latter a default position). Away from sport, I love to play and listen to music and have a deep curiosity for history and physics.

The value of your investments and the income from them can fall and you may not recover what you invested.
