What attracted you to a career in wealth management?

After studying at St Andrews, I was looking for a career that allowed me to apply technical knowledge in a way that makes a genuine difference to people. I explored a number of avenues - from real estate to medical robotics - before finding my way into financial planning, which has proven to be the right fit.

Wealth management bridges two things I care about: the challenge of building technical solutions to complex problems and personal relationships which make that work meaningful. No two clients are the same, and that variety keeps the work interesting. That and an ever-shifting legislative landscape.

The dynamic nature of the role, combined with the technical depth it requires and the challenge of crafting the right solution for each client, makes the work both engaging and fulfilling.

How do you approach your role on a daily basis?

I believe good financial planning does two things well. Firstly, it cuts through complexity - simplifying solutions, focusing on what clients can actually control, and proactively managing plans so nothing is left on the table. Secondly, it recognises that no two clients are the same - their circumstances, goals and priorities are unique, and the planning should reflect that. Good advice, applied at the right time and tailored to the individual, makes a real difference, and I hold myself to a high standard in delivering it.

Underpinning that is the relationship. I take time to get to know my clients well - their objectives, their circumstances and what matters to them. The best financial planning is as much about trust as it is about technical expertise, and my priority is that clients feel confident in the advice they receive and are comfortable with the person delivering it.

What are your interests outside of work?

I'm a keen golfer and follow football and rugby closely. I grew up and studied in Scotland and have family roots in Ireland - both places that instil a genuine appreciation for good food, good drink and good company. London has been a fine place to pursue all three. I enjoy exploring what the city has to offer with friends and family, and I'm always open to a good recommendation.

The value of your investments and the income from them can fall and you may not recover what you invested.
