In conversation with the charity sector

Lexi, a specialist charities accountant, shares his views on the charity sector and her greatest fear.

What’s the biggest challenge facing the charity sector?

Delivering more with fewer resources.

If you were to give a charity a single piece of advice, what would it be?

Take less for granted.

Do you feel regulation is going to prevent people from volunteering?

If you had a magic wand and could change one thing in the charity sector, what would it be?

Greater diversification of Trustees.

How did you get involved in the charity sector?

I’ve always had an active interest in the sector and working in the accountancy profession gave me an excellent opportunity to develop that alongside my professional career.

Do you think charities are perceived differently from ten years ago?

There is much greater distrust – in how charities spend their funds and in the individuals who run them.

Which charity personality (historical or current) would you most like to meet today?

Mother Teresa Bojaxhiu.

How do you relax from a busy day?

Trail running on the hills in Somerset… possibly followed by a swift drink at my local!

Who would your ideal dinner guest be?

My young son – there’s no one more amusing!

What is your greatest fear?

Becoming intolerant.

What book do you recommend most to others?

Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand.
