David Butler

Head of Distribution
London

What attracted you to a career in wealth management?

I began my career in 1991 as Sales Support for Scottish Amicable and quickly progressed to becoming a Business Development Manager looking after financial advisers. I stayed within life company intermediary sales until 2003 when I was promoted at Prudential to a newly formed channel responsible for their corporate partners.

In 2004 I moved into asset management, joining Insight Investment as a Client Relationship Director managing third party and group relationships. I then returned to the financial adviser sector for Cofunds in 2010.

I joined Quilter Cheviot in 2012 as a Business Development Director and was promoted in 2016 to Head of Strategic Accounts with responsibility for the Head Office Relationships with National, Network and Platforms.

In April 2020 I became Head of Distribution with responsibility for the strategy and team that service, support and work with the financial adviser community. I am also a member of the Product Governance Forum and a Responsible Investment Champion.

Throughout my time in the industry, I have enjoyed building long lasting relationships with financial service professionals, always with the goal of creating and providing the best outcomes for clients. I am a big believer in personal and professional development and a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Securities and Investment (CISI). I also hold the Financial Planning Certificate, Investment Management Certificate, Investment Advice Diploma and Private Client and Advice Management Diploma (Merit).

How do you work with / look after clients?

My focus is for my team and I to provide the highest level of support and service to our financial advisers and their clients. This involves technical expertise, industry updates and views, access to our investment professionals and business development ideas.

My team and I work across the whole of the UK and Northern Ireland and provide all of our access and support via one-to-one meetings, team meetings, webinars, seminars and conferences.

What are your interests outside of work?

Outside of work, my time is mainly spent entertaining and socialising with friends and family. However, when time permits, I am an avid supporter of motorsports and like to participate in track day events. I also enjoy movies, especially at the cinema and am partial to a good quiz.

The value of your investments and the income from them can fall and you may not recover what you invested.
