Investing for Income and Growth

Some of our clients want to grow their wealth and generate an income at the same time.

With a careful understanding of your needs, your investment manager will tailor an investment portfolio to achieve these two goals. They will carefully select assets designed to increase in value steadily over time in order to achieve growth, while selecting assets that generate a good level of income.

Your investment manager will discuss with you how much you want to take as income and how much you want to re-invest to boost growth.

How is it done?

Here are some examples showing where income and/or growth can be generated:

  • Equities: The most popular way of investing for growth is purchasing equities – the shares of companies. History shows that if you hold a collection of equities for a long time you’re likely to make a profit. Each year the company pays dividends to its shareholders.
  • Fixed interest securities: When you lend a government or company money over a fixed period and you receive a regular payment for doing so.
  • Alternatives: An alternative investment is an investment in asset classes other than stocks, bonds, and cash. The term is a relatively loose one and includes tangible assets such as precious metals and some financial assets such as real estate, commodities, private equity, hedge funds and venture capital. Quilter Cheviot does not directly invest in alternatives, rather via third party funds who invest in alternatives.
